Notes from the Heart

On a sunny afternoon in San Jose, over a hundred children wrote down what music meant to them. No prompting. No fancy words. Just the truth.

Children at the Harmony of the Earth concert

On the sunny afternoon of May 11, Shine in Hearts and the Virtuosi Music & Art Foundation came together to host a mini concert and a message board activity in celebration of Mother's Day and Mental Health Awareness Month.

Accompanied by the sounds of violin and piano, the concert welcomed over a hundred guests — adults and children alike — who gathered to share their love and passion for music. Afterward, we asked each of them to write something down.

Without the need for fancy words, the students' heartfelt messages reflected their pure and genuine feelings toward music. Some wrote a sentence. Some wrote several. Some just drew a picture.

"Music is a language across countries and cultures."

This is the quiet power of music. It doesn’t require explanation or language, only presence. In that space, each child responded in their own way, and we’re grateful for every note, every drawing, and every expression they shared with us.
